Get the real science underlying the search for life elsewhere in the universe. Join astrophysicists and educators from the NC Museum of Natural Sciences for a special presentation in the SECU Daily Planet Theater on World UFO Day. 1:00 PM – Earth to ET: Sending Messages to Unknown Extraterrestrials Dr. Rachel Smith, Head of the Astronomy & Astrophysics Research Lab, Curator of Meteorites, and professor at Appalachian State University Throughout history, humanity has contemplated its place in the universe, wondering if we are alone amongst the stars. Despite the lack of scientific evidences, countless sightings of UFOs and other unexplained phenomena have been attributed to extraterrestrial (ET) life, either visiting Earth or sending us a message. On this year’s World UFO Day, Dr. Rachel Smith will present ideas behind the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI), focusing on our rare attempts to intentionally send a message into the cosmos and the potential ramifications of doing so as a relatively very young technological civilization in a much older universe. An unexplained object is seen at center as it flies among the clouds. (U.S. Department of Defense.)
